People have you met the new Jim Crow? The bottle is new but the wine is old Some things in life just never change Like the Babylon system and how they run their game They used to swing black bodies from the trees Now they lock em in a cell and they throw away the keys Ghetto youths don’t really stand a chance Every single day is like a dangerous match Look out son, it’s time to run Cause the cops are rolling up and they pulling out (reaching for) their guns And we’re singing Stop and Frisk We are at risk Brown or black Better watch your back The police dem a come and launch dey attack People don’t you know that the new Jim Crow has got to go We’ve got to overthrow The new Jim Crow Let me introduce the new Jim Crow Different channel, different time slot But the same old show Nowadays it’s a crime if you don’t look "right" They can snatch you from the street any day or night In a system that feeds it’s poor to the rich The taser gun has replaced the switch They say just work hard and you can live the dream Then they beat us in the streets Bring us down to our knees So this is what we singin’ Stop and Frisk We are at risk Brown or black Better watch your back The police dem a come and launch dey attack People don’t you know that the new Jim Crow has got to go We’ve got to overthrow The new Jim Crow

Baby girl She's my pearl She's my life She's my world Confident Intelligent Most beautiful I ever met I was feelin oh so bad Never felt so blue Sleepin' on a cold hard floor Didn't know what to do Knocked to my knees by love Down on my luck Wasn't lookin' for no miracles Just some help to get up Then one magical night She happened my way Her smile pierced through my clouds And her love just blew me away Yanira Baby it's true Every single day I will cherish you Yanira When you took my hand You lead me straight into the promised land Yanira Baby it's true Every single day I will cherish you Yanira When you took my hand You lead me straight into the promised land Wasn't lookin' for another love But what could I say She satisfied my heart and mind In every way People said don't do it man It's not what it seems I told 'em that my heart don't lie This woman stepped out of a dream When I held her in my arms I couldn't let go Now I call this girl my wife And her love has captured my soul Yanira Baby it's true Every single day I will cherish you Yanira When you took my hand You lead me straight into the promised land

The Struggle 05:05
Brothers and Sisters Have you heard. They’ve been listenin’ to our calls Scanning every word. But when we ask them To lend a helping hand They don’t listen to a word we say They claim they can’t understand Working two jobs Still it just ain’t enough Trying to keep their bellies full Has never been so tough Everyday’s a struggle Just trying to make ends meet Get sick and miss a week of work And we’ll be living on the street They push, they shove, they chip away We scratch, we claw, we find a way They lie, they cheat, they steal our pay We live, to fight, another day Don’t give up the struggle-unite People got to stand up and fight (repeat) The rich get richer And the poor get poorer They’re ringing us for every cent And yet they still want more Our Mothers & Sisters Doin’ the best they can But no matter how hard they work They won’t be paid like a man Profits over people That’s the name of their game But the people have had enough And we refuse to play So when they tell us That there’s no other way The people must chant them down The hour’s getting late They spy, harass, and hack away We must resist, and disobey They say that we should hope and pray There’s got to be another way Don’t give up the struggle – unite People got to stand up and fight Don’t give up the struggle – unite Brothers got to put up a fight Don’t give up the struggle – unite Sisters got to fight for what’s right.

about

The debut album from Chicago band Ted Sirota's Heavyweight Dub was recorded, mixed, and mastered by the legendary "Dub Chemist" Overton H. Brown aka "The Scientist". Sirota, a veteran of the Chicago music scene, decided to address his 30 + year love for Jamaican music by putting this new band together in early 2013. Only weeks after starting the band Sirota had a chance encounter with one of his biggest influences - The Scientist. After a serious discussion about music, the pair quickly embarked on a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to bring The Scientist to Chicago to record and mix this record.

With this band Sirota & cohorts hope to bring back some of the serious musicianship that was emblematic of the "golden age" of Reggae. Through his original music, and arrangements, Sirota hopes to creatively pay respect to legends like Tommy McCook, Cedric Brooks, Ernest Ranglin, Jackie Mittoo, Winston Wright, Leroy Sibbles, Roots Radics, Soul Syndicate, The Upsetters, The Revolutionaries and many others, while still keeping an eye on the future. Filtering all of this music through the brilliant mind and acrobatic fingers of the "Dub Chemist" was just the icing on the cake. Scientist proves he is still the Heavyweight Dub Champion of the World! Enjoy.
